The Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce was proud to attend the recent launch of the Build It Like A Tradie program - an innovative new initiative created by Future Lady Tradies, a program driving real change in Australia’s blue-collar workforce. Chamber President Zac Revere, Vice-President Josh Yates, and Board Member Lisa Ketjen represented the Chamber, showing strong support for a program that promises to reshape how young women engage with trades careers.
Founded by three tenacious young women - Taleah Pearson (19) and twins Aleah and Kayla Hill (18) - Future Lady Tradies is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to attract, connect, and retain female apprentices in the trades. The innovative Build It Like A Tradie school program gives students hands-on experience constructing real projects while learning about career options in construction.
Beyond schools, Future Lady Tradies is also breaking down practical workplace barriers. Their Kickass Care Kits provide emergency hygiene products for women working on-site, helping eliminate a key reason many hesitate to pursue a trade. And, the team goes one step further with their newly launched Female Friendly Workplace Accreditation - a formal, nationally recognised program that helps employers build more inclusive and supportive job sites. To qualify, companies must meet specific criteria, including female-friendly amenities and care kits on-site.
The Southern Gold Coast Chamber commends these young founders for their professionalism, passion, and bold leadership. Their work addresses long-standing gender gaps in skilled trades with practical solutions and contagious optimism. We encourage local schools, employers, and industry leaders to get involved and support the Future Lady Tradies team as they empower the next generation of tradies to build with confidence - and build lasting careers.
