Meet the City of Gold Coast new CEO
Please join us for our next breakfast event to be held at the iconic Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday July 14.
We are excited to have Tim Baker, the new CEO of the City of Gold Coast as our guest speaker, with an introduction by Mayor Tom Tate.
Tim will be providing an overview after his first few months in the new role, then open-up to a Q&A session.

Tim Baker
CEO of the City of Gold Coast
In February 2022, Tim commenced as the CEO of City of Gold Coast. Tim has extensive experience leading both private and public sector organisations having held senior roles in both the financial services industry and in the public sector over a 20 year career. Recently holding the position of Secretary at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas)
In his role as Secretary of NRE Tas, Tim held a number of statutory positions including the Director-General of Lands, and the Director of National Parks and Wildlife. Tim also chaired the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture Advisory Board and represented the State of Tasmania on many Boards and Committees, including Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd and the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies. In addition to this, Tim was the State representative on a number of national bodies including the Agricultural Senior Officials Working Group and the Agricultural Ministers’ and Environment Ministers’ Forums
Mayor Tom Tate
Tom Tate was elected Mayor of the Gold Coast, Australia’s 6th largest city, in April 2012. He was re-elected for a second term in March 2016 and a third term in March 2020.
Mayor Tate is a civil engineer by trade, having graduated from the University of NSW in the early 1980s. He started his career in the construction industry and later moved into the tourism and hospitality industry.
His focus for the future is to build on the legacy of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games by focusing on the key areas of transport and digital infrastructure; health, education and knowledge; events; culture and business investment. Mayor Tate is committed to ensuring a future for the Gold Coast that includes a stronger economy, more jobs and protecting the city’s enviable lifestyle.
