Chamber member starts first of it's kind Rotary club
Rotary International District Governor, Andy Rajapakse, and Founder Club President, Zac Revere, are proud to commence a new styled action-oriented Rotary Club to be formed in Australia to focus on saving the iconic “Koala”.
The Rotary Club of Koala Lovers is a first of its kind venture for Rotary International as it seeks to embrace its younger members and an ever-changing world. In 2021 Rotary celebrates 100 years in Australia and establishes Environment as one of 7 focus areas of Rotary. After Rotary International District Governor, Andy Rajapakse, heard of the plight of the Australian Koala he saw the opportunity to do something that no-one had thought of before. He invited Founder Club President, Zac Revere, to form a new, action-oriented, Rotary Club.
Embracing the use of Zoom and the already global thinking of Rotary International, Andy and Zac have launched the club with aims to attract members from the Gold Coast and all cities and towns across Australia and the world over. Launching on Valentine’s day, the club first met on Zoom to hear from Foundation Director of the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital (now one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world) Whitney Luzzo Kelly, to understand the important impact a wildlife hospital can make and how the club could help. Zac Revere says that he’s looking forward to ensuring that the Rotary Club of Koala Lovers becomes “a part of the global wildlife hospital community much the same as it has been welcomed into the health community”. Mr. Revere says “Through the hard work if its members, Rotary defeated Polio. Through the hard work of our members, Rotary will become a leading supporter of the Australian and Global Wildlife Hospital”.
The club intends to uphold its title as an ‘action’ group and has hit the ground running, pledging that on admission to the membership every member, as part of the fees paid, contribute to plant a Eucalyptus Tree to help save the Koala habitat in Australia. The club seeks 25 founder charter members to start this new styled Rotary Club. Be a pioneer in a game-changing Global initiative.
