Council Update: What’s Happening in Our Backyard
In this update, Councillor Gail O'Neill shares the latest developments in Division 14, from exciting local events to infrastructure projects and upgrades. Stay informed about the activities and improvements enhancing our community.
As we near the end of the year, I'm thrilled to share some of the completed projects in Division 14, all aimed at enhancing our beautiful southern Gold Coast. The Griffith Street Revitalisation Project is now finished, adding a vibrant splash of colour to Coolangatta. With beautiful murals and street art throughout, the theme of “A Life Lived by the Ocean” truly brings new energy to the area.
We’ve installed new shelters at Roughton Park in Kirra and Bilinga Lifeguard Park, and two more are on the way at Wyberba Street Park, Tugun complete with new picnic settings for the community to enjoy. I’m also pleased to share that the Kirra Hill Slope Stabilisation Project is nearly complete, right in time for Christmas, with the replica eagle set for installation early in the new year!
Roughton Park has also been alive with music, hosting Seaside Sounds over the past two weeks, and we still have two more weekends to go! Join me at 3 pm on the next two Sundays in November for live performances from some fantastic local talent.
Heading into the festive season, we have three wonderful events lined up for you to enjoy: Tugun Lights Up on Saturday, December 7; Cooly Christmas Carols on Sunday, December 8; and Currumbin Christmas Carols on Monday, December 16. For more details, check out my Facebook page.
Looking to 2025, we’ll begin work on the Snapper Rocks Master Plan and the Greenmount Hill upgrade—two projects that will play a vital role in enhancing the beauty, safety, and accessibility of Division 14.
Wishing you and your family a joyous festive season, and I look forward to reconnecting with you in the new year.
Kind Regards
Gail O’Neill
