Council Update: What’s Happening in Our Backyard
In this update, Councillor Gail O'Neill shares the latest accomplishments in Division 14, from exciting local events to infrastructure projects and upgrades. Stay informed about the activities and improvements enhancing our community.
As we approach the end of 2024, I'm excited to share some of our recent accomplishments in Division 14, each designed to enrich the charm and functionality of our southern Gold Coast.
The Griffith Street Revitalisation Project is nearly complete, infusing Coolangatta with vibrant murals and street art inspired by the theme "A Life Lived by the Ocean," bringing fresh energy to this beloved area. The final touches of this project are underway, with a new suite of complimentary furniture to be installed soon, completing the revitalised street.
We’ve also upgraded our local parks with new shelters: two are in place at Roughton Park in Kirra and Bilinga Lifeguard Park, and two more in Wyberba Street Park in Tugun, complete with picnic settings for everyone to enjoy. In addition, the Kirra Hill Slope Stabilisation Project is finished, just in time for Christmas, with the replica eagle set for installation early next year!
This past weekend, Tugun Lights Up celebrated its 12th year and was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a wonderful community event. It was fantastic to see so many locals and visitors come together to kick off the festive season in true Tugun style.
On Sunday, Cooly Christmas Carols brought even more festive cheer to our community, and we were lucky the weather held off until the very end! It was wonderful to see families and friends enjoying the carols and celebrating the magic of Christmas together.
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to bring you one more festive event: the Currumbin Christmas Carols at Galleon Way Park on Monday, December 16. Visit my Facebook page for more details on this wonderful evening and get your Christmas outfits ready to celebrate!
Over the past few weeks, the City has been conducting community consultation for the Snapper Rocks Master Plan and the Greenmount Hill upgrade, two major projects focused on enhancing the beauty, safety, and accessibility of Division 14. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the survey or attend one of the pop ups held at Rainbow Bay. Stay tuned for more information about these projects in the new year.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful festive season, and I look forward to reconnecting with you in the new year!
Regards,
Gail O’Neill
