Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation seeks items for upcoming raffle

The 2019-20 financial year has come to an end, which was one of the toughest years yet for wildlife. Millions of native animals perished as a result of the severe drought conditions and intensifying bushfires, followed by extensive flooding across South East Queensland. As the new financial year begins, fundraising for the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital resets for the 2020-21 year to keep the doors open.

As one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, admitting over 12,200 animals per year (including almost 600 Koalas in 2019). The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital's vital work of treating, rehabilitating and releasing ever-increasing numbers of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife means the hospital is regularly operating well above human and operational capacity on a more regular basis.

The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has seen a 20% increase in admissions in 2019 and a 15% increase midway through 2020 not including the upcoming spring breeding season. The Hospital's operating costs have subsequently needed to increase at the same rate to cope with increased admissions, taking them to a projected operating cost in 2020/21 financial year to the highest in our history. The Hospital is only 20% funded and relies purely on the support of donations, community support and our Corporate Partners to operate and to keep the Hospital doors open to save wildlife!

We are at a critical crossroad for our endangered wildlife and their dwindling habitat. Koalas will be extinct by 2050 if we do not take serious steps to invest in their future. The Hospital needs continued financial support to ensure the longevity of our iconic Australian animals, as they are extremely important to the local community in Queensland and the entire world.

The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation team are respectfully requesting support to continue to treat, rehabilitate and release native Australian wildlife by donating a raffle or auction item for use for our upcoming raffle to be held online during September 2020. Your donation will assist the Foundation to raise vital funds for research, equipment and care for our sick, injured and orphaned animals. It is only through the support of generous organisations that the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital can continue to provide these services to our preserve our precious wildlife.
