Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary re-opens after 3 month closure

The not for profit/charity organisation was forced to close on the 23rd of March following the implimentation of government restrictions. 

General Manager of the Sanctuary, Michael Kelly said 'Over the previous few months our Sanctuary team have been focused on looking after our much-loved animals, as well as spending time on maintenance and beautification projects to ensure the park is looking its best. More recently, our management team spent many hours in developing our significant COVIDsafe plan. This extensive document sets the framework for our operation over the coming months and will be constantly updated in line with changes communicated via government and health authorities.'

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush 27-hectare outdoor park continues to play a vital role in connecting wildlife and nature with our community. The expansive grounds provide an open-air safe haven for humans and animals alike and their conservation efforts are aimed to ensure that the Sanctuary and precious wildlife remain in place for generations to come.

A visit to the Sanctuary will feel a little different on reopening, as they introduce protocols and procedures per their COVIDsafe plan to ensure that members, guests, staff and volunteers can all continue to enjoy a safe outdoor environment. Just some of changes that will be implemented include:
• All guests and members will now be required to pre-book their visit online
• Limited daily visitor numbers to enable social distancing
• Our park opening hours have changed to 9.00am – 4.00pm
• Special COVIDsafe team members will be located throughout the park monitoring and enforcing social distancing requirements
• Dedicated COVIDsafe team members will be located throughout the park sanitising high-touch areas throughout the day

Though some areas of the park will need to remain closed until further notice, rest assured that the much-loved animals will be on display, there will be a revised show timetable in place, the key retail stores and food outlets will be open and our iconic lorikeet feeding will still be held twice daily at 8.00am and 4.00pm. In addition, the Wildlife Hospital continues to operate 7 days a week treating injured native wildlife.
