Gold Coast Airport smashes records with busiest day ever
It’s been another bumper year for tourism on the Gold Coast with Gold Coast Airport recording its busiest day of all time and busiest December ever.
610,497 passengers passed through the gates in December, up 4.9 per cent on the previous year and 1,864 passengers higher than the previous record in 2017.
A big jump in visitors from overseas helped drive the increase, with international numbers up 9 per cent.
Those was also healthy growth from domestic visitors which were up 4.2 per cent.
Saturday, 28 December saw the busiest day ever recorded at Gold Coast Airport.
25,079 passed through the gates, surpassing the previous record by 494, set on January 7, 2018.
However passenger numbers for the whole year were slightly down on 2018 figures.
Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills says it was a positive finish after a slow start to the year.
“It’s clear that the Gold Coast is still Australia’s favourite holiday destination,” Mr Mills said.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of the team at Gold Coast Airport, with record passenger numbers and significant development happening to cater for future growth.”
