Meet the Candidate - Laura Gerber
Meet Laura, candidate in the state by-election for Currumbin
I loved growing up and working on the Gold Coast and there’s nowhere else I would want to bring up my own two children.
My family loves living in Currumbin, but this special community has been neglected by Labor.
We deserve better.
My commitment to the people of Currumbin is very clear – things will be better under the LNP.
The Gold Coast is a community that values and encourages reward for effort.
We’re a community that cares about our environment.
We’re a family community.
We care for each other and protect one other.
These values are my values – and they always have been.
As a teenager I earned my bronze medallion at the Currumbin Vikings.
I wanted to be a lifesaver and help others – and I haven’t changed!
After studying law at university and starting my career at Attwood Marshall, I joined the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
While there I was part of a team that prosecuted people smugglers and paedophiles who exploited children online – sending them to jail.
I believe governments should protect communities from criminals, but Labor have failed to do that in Currumbin.
Crime has risen across the Gold Coast under Labor and youth crime is out of control.
Labor have failed on many other issues besides crime.
Queensland has the worst unemployment in Australia and on the Gold Coast youth unemployment is over 13%.
That’s just not acceptable. It’s not ok – and no amount of spin will ever make that ok – for us to come last in the jobs race.
For five years nothing has happened on the southern end of the M1 – yet now in an election year Labor want you to believe that they’ll suddenly fix it.
That is not good enough.
An LNP Government will never ignore this community.
The LNP will get on with the job and manage the economy responsibly.
We will give local businesses the confidence to create jobs.
We’ll focus on fixing the health system – not on renaming hospitals.
We deserve a health system that treats patients in beds – that doesn’t leave them for hours in the back of an ambulance – like happened to one of our volunteers two weeks ago.
And we’ll deal with congestion by building and fixing the roads that are clogged every day.
If there are three things every Queenslander can be confident of when it comes to the LNP, it’s these:
- We’ll create jobs and build a strong economy, so we can deliver better health and education services for Queenslanders.
- We’re builders – we’re the party that built the M1 and we will build the schools, hospitals, roads and dams that our state needs.
- We’ll always stand up for the people – we’ll tackle crime head on. We won’t make excuses for the perpetrators like Labor does.
I believe that our community deserves better.
Labor hasn’t earned our support.
How Labor is governing simply isn’t good enough.
On March 28th I need your support so together we can get Queensland working again.
