Member Spotlight: Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific

Proudly hosting up to 71,000 club members across Asia Pacific, Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific is part of Wyndham Destinations which is the world’s largest vacation ownership and exchange company. The company’s Australian headquarters is the Wyndham Destinations Corporate Centre in Bundall on the Gold Coast. The Asia Pacific team oversee a collection of some 68 hotels and resorts extending across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Hawaii and Europe which includes the globally renowned Wyndham Grand, Wyndham, Wyndham Garden, Ramada by Wyndham, TRYP by Wyndham and Days Inn by Wyndham brands.

COVID-19 could have cause a complete shutdown of the dynamic and global business model, however, President and Managing Director of International Operations, Barry Robinson, explains that he has confidence in the business model that generates significant free cash flow, even during difficult economic times. The Asia Pacific team has not been without difficult economic times, having to close the majority of its hotels and resorts at COVID's peak.

"While all our resorts are now back open across Australia and New Zealand, in Bali, Thailand and Japan we are still only operating domestically. In other places like Fiji and Lombok, we have had to keep our resorts closed until such a time as international borders reopen."

Meanwhile, the team have used the shut down as an opportunity to fast-track refurbishments and maintenance works, carrying out regular deep cleans and provide relief wherever possible, in the form of free and discounted meals and care packages.

So what's next for Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific? Barry Robinson explains that the road ahead is exciting, while leading and globally recognised health and hygiene protocols have been implemented for staff and guest safety.

"On the Gold Coast, where our South Pacific Headquarters is based, we have just renewed our lease of the Wyndham Corporate Centre at 1 Corporate Court, Bundall, until 2028 with CorVal Partners Ltd. We have taken the opportunity during the pandemic, to reposition our offices in line with a more flexible approach. Our plan is for a modern, inspiring space covering two floors including the top 10th floor. Our architecturally designed workplace is being created in conjunction with Harry Poulos Architects. We have also retained the naming rights to the building and operation of Canteen Social on the ground floor."

The Asia Pacific team is excited to be creating a workplace of the future in Bundall, with state of the art hygiene measures in place and a space cohesive to collaboration, creativity and innovation.
