Rydges Gold Coast Airport: COVID-19 won't stop this $50 million investment
Opening in 2020, the four-star hotel touts 192 rooms, sweeping views over Kirra beach and a few more surprises to come. Rydges Gold Coast is prepared to surprise once COVID-19 restrictions ease.
In February 2019, a sod-turning ceremony marked the announcement of a $50 million Rydges-branded hotel at Gold Coast Airport and in June 2019 all reports showed the project was on track to open in mid-2020. Eleven months later, our country faced devastating bush fires, Queensland was lashed with monsoon style flooding and now the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic; all the while the Rydges Gold Coast has taken shape and continues on track to open in mid-2020. Though seemingly resilient, the team admits its greatest challenge remains the uncertainty and inability to plan, strategise and navigate. Remaining positive is the key, as the team says: "This is a fantastic project before COVID-19 and will still be a fantastic project post-COVID-19".
The closure of the Gold Coast Airport as a result of the COVID-19 and subsequent border closures has introduced unexpected hurdles but the future of Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel is very positive. The team have spent a lot of time connecting this hotel with its unique surroundings, including their sweeping views over Kirra beach. The rooftop bar overlooking Kirra Beach and the Hinterland will be something very special for the region.
