The Realestate Dancer: COVID-19 has changed the industry

In many ways, COVID-19 has changed the way in which the real estate industry conducts its business ... but that question lies ... will it be 'forever'?

Mark Driscoll, an empathetic listener and co-operative freelance Real Estate Agent who also has a passion for dancing, explains hows the industry has been tested during the COVID-19 pandemic and has had to refocus on ensuring they have a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) plan which priorities auctioneers and buyers health; something the industry has never had to adopt and police previously. Mark says that virtual reality tours or video presentations and virtual inspections via digital meeting programs or by detailed photographs "could lead to a 'virtual' technical revolution of conducting business if accepted long term by real estate consumers and government bodies".

Though Mark believes that such a move could risk the electric and entertaining atmosphere originally found at an auction and creates "more of a challenge to connect with people and gain their trust without a sincere handshake, a congratulatory hug or a confidential conversation in close proximity. Previously, auctions had an atmosphere with the added opportunity to have a productive dialogue with both potential buyers and sellers".

Though Mark hasn't given up on his passion, granting this piece of advice for prospective buyers and seller: "I do believe that regional real estate opportunities will be more appealing and as a result, a resultant reduction in the commercial office and retail sectors. Fortunately, real estate consumers will always seek somewhere to live and work, so there will always be a market for people seeking a home or a space to generate an income, no matter where and how that may now be".
