Three Year Deal for Coolangatta to Host Australian Junior Beach Volleyball
Beach Volleyball is set to reappear on Coolangatta Beach in an exciting new partnership between Volleyball Australia, Tourism Events Queensland and the City of Gold Coast - further cementing Coolangatta as a major events destination for the city.
In a three-year deal between the three parties, the Gold Coast will host the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships, the newly created Australian Beach Volleyball Schools Cup and a round of the senior Australian Beach Volleyball Tour in March from 2020.
In 2020, the events will be run back to back on Coolangatta Beach from 14-22 March, with the possibility of adding an international event to the program from 2021.
The Gold Coast last hosted the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships in 2012. It is anticipated that the three events will entice over 1200 athletes, coaches and supporters to the region and deliver a significant boost to the Gold Coast economy.
With the relocation of the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup to the Gold Coast commencing in 2019, the three-year commitment to stage the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships and Beach Schools Cup to Coolangatta will establish the Gold Coast as a key location for junior volleyball competition in Australia.
