The Pacific Motorway (M1) Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade

As has been previously mentioned, the $1 billion Pacific Motorway Varsity Lakes to Tugun (VL2T) project to upgrade 10km of the M1 and constructing in packages are expected to be complete by end 2023. 

• Extending all entry and exit ramps at interchanges, and significant improvements made to:  
  • Burleigh (Exit 87) 
  • Tallebudgera (Exit 89) 
  • Palm Beach (Exit 92) 
• Widening the Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek bridges 
• Constructing a new 2-way western service road between Tallebudgera (Exit 89) and Palm Beach (Exit 92) and a new bridge over Tallebudgera Creek connecting the new western service road 
• Installing smart motorway technologies to improve travel time between Nerang and Tugun 
• Preserving the corridor for a possible future rail extension south of Varsity Lakes 
• Installing bike and pedestrian paths to improve active transport connections.

TRAFFIC ALERT

There will be a temporary full road closure of Boundary Street (between Ward Street and Tweed Terrace) Coolangatta for the reconstruction of pavement and construction of new water main. Local traffic access will be maintained.

The closure will be in place commencing Monday 31 August to 1 December 2020 from 6.30am to 6.30pm (weather permitting).

Temporary Road Closure

Ward Street (half road closure with traffic control – expect delays) between Boundary Street and Eden Avenue Kerb and channel replacement / footpath reconstruction.

Start date: 29 June 2020

End date: 31 October 2020

Duration: 6:30am – 4pm

Temporary Road Closure - Palm Beach

Manila Avenue (full road closure local traffic access only) between Laguna Avenue and End of road in order to facilitate tree clearing for M1 upgrade project.

Date:  5 October 2020 to 9 October 2020

Duration: 6:30am – 6:30pm

Temporary Road Closure - Main Beach

Woodroffe Avenue (full road closure local traffic access only) between Main Beach Parade and End of road to allow for safe environment for all road users during major deliveries utilising a mobile crane and concrete pours.

Start date: 21 August 2020

End date: 22 December 2020

Duration: 5am – 6:30pm
