Update from Laura Gerber MP, State Member for Currumbin
Laura provides an update on what's been happening in politics along with an update on what has been happening in the electorate.
Happy Easter Currumbin! It's incredible to think how quickly this year is going.
We had a rough start to the year with floods and severe weather, and I know flood recovery efforts continue for many in our community. The Queensland Government's flood review is now open, and accepting submissions. Further details on how to have your say can be found below.
As always, if there is any way I can support you, please don’t hesitate to email currumbin@parliament.qld.gov.au and I’ll be in touch as soon as possible. Warm regards, Laura Gerber MP Member for Currumbin Shadow Assistant Minister for Justice and Youth Shadow Assistant Minister for the Night-time Economy and Cultural Development

Community Sponsorship If your local community group needs support or sponsorship, please reach out to my office. I'm always happy to support our community in any way I can. Just last month, I was proud to support the Kirra Surf Lifesaving Club Ladies-only Patrol in honour of International Women's Day by sponsoring their patrol shirts. If I can be of assistance to your community group, please contact my office. |

Queensland Health Crisis Queensland’s ambulance crisis is the worst in the country with more than 1 in 3 ambulances routinely ramped outside hospitals. Official figures show on average 38% of all ambulances are ramped across the state making it the highest reported in Australia. Behind these numbers are Queenslanders needing urgent help, left waiting on a ramp, in a corridor or a hallway for hours. We are putting our solutions on the table because Queenslanders deserve so much better. |

Flood Review and Assistance The Queensland Government recently announced a review to assess its preparedness and response to the recent floods. Disappointingly, the review does not appear to address many of the concerns of our community. However, it is important we ensure our voices are heard. |

I'll be making a submission on behalf of the electorate, but you can also have your say by emailing SEQfloodreview2022@igem.qld.gov.au.
Legal Aid Queensland is providing free legal help to those affected by the recent flooding and severe weather through their Natural Disaster Legal Help Line. Find out more by visiting their website. |

Paid Parental Leave Two weeks ago the Federal Government handed down the 2022-23 Federal Budget which included paid parental leave improvements. Parents will be able to split 20 weeks of paid parental leave between the eligible working parents. I am very excited to see these new laws implemented by March 1, 2023. |
