Welcome back, interstate friends!

The Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce has been advocating for local businesses throughout the Covid-19 crisis. On the 8th of July, President Hilary Jacobs was invited to the Premier's Roundtable meeting with Mayor Tom Tate and other industry leaders to add your voice to the considerations being made. Hilary has been passionately advocating for a July 10th reopening and is happy to see a successful outcome. Hilary says that "normally from the June long weekend to October long weekend, we have a very large number of people who come up every year and embed themselves in our community. They are part of our community for three or four months of the year".
Great news from our favourite airport, Gold Coast Airport, who will reopen on Friday 10th of July. They've put lots of procedures in place to keep our community safe and will now see flights every day of the week. The return of interstate visitors will be a welcome boost to our local businesses.
Mayor Tom Tate wants the NSW border moved 7km south to the Tweed River to stop a repeat of financial and emotional stress thousands of businesses have endured during the coronavirus crisis. Cr Tate said he had been frustrated by the ongoing issues and went as far as to call for the border to be shifted south. "It makes logical sense. Seriously, the city's northern border goes all the way to the Logan River, why not have the southern one go to the Tweed River. But because it makes sense, the state politicians will not do it." he said.
