Federal Update with Leon Rebello MP – July 2026

Backing Business Confidence on the Southern Gold Coast

The Federal Budget has come and gone, but the pressure on local businesses has not.

Across the Southern Gold Coast, I continue to hear from small and family businesses who are working harder than ever while facing higher power bills, higher rents, higher insurance costs, workforce shortages and customers who are watching every dollar they spend.

That is why the Budget matters. It is not just a document for Canberra. It affects whether a local café can upgrade its equipment, whether a tradie can invest in a new ute, whether a retailer has the confidence to take on another staff member, and whether families have enough left over to support local businesses.

The Coalition has put forward a practical plan to restore Australia’s standard of living and get our economy moving again. That includes a permanent $50,000 instant asset write-off for small businesses, so businesses can invest with greater certainty in the tools, equipment and technology they need to grow.

We have also proposed a Tax Back Guarantee, which would stop inflation pushing Australians into paying more tax when they are no better off. When households keep more of what they earn, that supports local spending, local confidence and local jobs.

Just as importantly, we will continue to oppose tax changes that make it harder for small businesses to invest, employ and plan for the future.

While the economic challenges are real, I remain optimistic about the future of the Southern Gold Coast. We have the ingredients every strong local economy needs: hardworking small business owners, a growing community, a lifestyle that attracts people from across Australia, and a culture of enterprise that rewards those willing to have a go.

With the right policy settings, our region can do more than simply weather the current pressures. We can build a stronger local economy, create more opportunities for young people, attract investment, support new and growing businesses, and make the Southern Gold Coast an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

My focus is on making sure your voice is heard in Canberra, and that government backs the people who take risks, create jobs and invest in our community. There is every reason to be confident about what comes next if we get the fundamentals right.

As always, if I can be of assistance to you or your business, please reach out to my office and we will gladly assist where we can. Thank you for the valuable role you continue to play in our local and national economy.
