Back the Track – Send Heavy Rail South

Yesterday, I officially launched Back the Track, a campaign calling on the Federal Government to fund a detailed business case for extending heavy rail from Varsity Lakes to the Gold Coast Airport.

This isn’t a call to start construction tomorrow. It’s about taking the practical next step by undertaking the planning and analysis needed to make informed investment decisions.

The southern Gold Coast is one of the fastest growing regions, yet our passenger rail network stops 16 kilometres short of the Gold Coast Airport.

A direct rail connection would strengthen access to one of Australia’s fastest-growing airports, improve connectivity for businesses and employees, and help prepare our region for future growth.

The Queensland Government has confirmed it will continue protecting the rail corridor, and now it’s time for the Commonwealth to help move the project forward.
