State Update with Laura Gerber MP

Small and family businesses have had enough of crime, and we’re listening. That’s why we’re delivering vital security upgrades for small businesses through our Secure Partnerships Program.

Eligible small businesses can apply for grants to install important security upgrades such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems, security lighting and security screens.

These practical measures will help business owners feel safer and better protected. Applications are open until 30 June 2026, and more information on how to apply is available online.

I’ve been speaking directly with businesses along Griffith Street in Coolangatta about rising concerns around crime and recently joined local police during a wanding operation under Jack’s Law.

Jack’s Law gives police the power to use handheld metal detectors in public areas to keep dangerous weapons off our streets and out of business precincts.

In under 12 months, it has already made our community safer, with more than 1,000 weapons removed from Queensland streets, including 225 on the Gold Coast.

The Crisafulli Government is also delivering cost-of-living relief for small businesses through lower energy prices.

The Australian Energy Regulator has confirmed that electricity prices under the Default Market Offer will decrease by between 10.4 and 14 per cent for small businesses across South East Queensland next financial year.

Our Energy Roadmap is focused on delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy because local businesses deserve certainty and support.
