Council Update with Cr Gail O’Neill – September 2026
Kirra – Seaside Sounds Events
There are still two opportunities to enjoy Seaside Sounds before the season wraps up, with free live music events coming to Kirra on Sunday 13 September and Sunday 20 September from 3pm to 6pm.
Featuring talented local performers at our beautiful beachfront location, Seaside Sounds has become a popular community event that supports local musicians while encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy our southern beaches and local businesses.
Pack a picnic rug, grab a bite from one of our wonderful local eateries and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of live music by the sea. It’s a fantastic way to experience everything that makes our southern Gold Coast lifestyle so special.

Currumbin Training Wall Ready for SWELL Sculpture Festival
The newly renewed Currumbin Training Wall is now complete, providing an impressive new community asset just in time for this year’s SWELL Sculpture Festival which starts from this Friday to the 20th of September.
The $7.7 million project has delivered a stronger and more resilient structure to help protect Currumbin Creek and the coastline, while also creating improved beach access, an accessible pathway, viewing areas, seating and landscaping for everyone to enjoy.
Visitors to SWELL will be among the first to experience the new walkway, with artworks already being installed along the route ahead of the festival opening. The project also marks the return of the much-loved Sun Spirit sculpture, which has found a new home at Currumbin thanks to the generosity of Brett and Annette from Sydney who donated the sister statue after our original was stolen last year.
The completed training wall is a wonderful addition to the southern beaches and another great reason to visit Currumbin this spring.

School Holiday Fun for the Whole Family
With the September school holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time for families to start planning activities to keep children entertained, active and engaged.
The City’s NaturallyGC and Active & Healthy programs offer a fantastic range of free and low-cost activities, including nature-based experiences, outdoor adventures, fitness programs and educational workshops.
Many activities take place across the southern Gold Coast and provide a great opportunity for children to connect with nature, learn new skills and enjoy the outdoors during the break.
I encourage families to explore the School Holiday Activities Calendar and discover the many programs available across the city these holidays.
