Federal Update with Leon Rebello MP
The Gold Coast is proudly the small business capital of Australia, and the individuals and families who take the risk to start and grow businesses are the lifeblood of our community – creating local jobs and driving our economy. I will always stand in the corner of these hardworking people.
It is concerning that nearly 30,000 Australian businesses have become insolvent in the past three years, as rising costs and poor policy decisions make it harder to stay afloat. That’s why I’ve launched a small business survey to hear directly from local operators about how government can better support them. If you’re a business owner, I encourage you to share your feedback: https://leonrebello.com.au/small-business-survey/
Looking ahead, the Albanese Government will hand down its fifth Budget on 12 May 2026. The Coalition has set three clear tests: restoring living standards, strengthening national security, and delivering transparent, accountable government.
Early signs suggest the Government will double down on its unsustainable spending approach – at a time when real wages are falling, living standards are declining, and debt continues to grow. Australians need a Budget that tackles inflation, eases pressure on interest rates, and backs small business – not one that adds to the cost-of-living and cost-of-operating burdens.
As always, if there is anything I can do to support you, please contact my office at leon.rebello.mp@aph.gov.au.
