The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships
NORTH KIRRA BEACH 25 MARCH – 2 APRIL
The Aussies is not simply Australia’s largest annual sporting competition. It’s a whole lot more. From swimming to skis, from boards to boats, everything they do, every event in which they compete is there for a single purpose, to save lives on the beach. With over 7,000 competitors from 313 Clubs competing in 451 events over nine action packed days – it’s an event not to be missed! Its where Surf Life Savers come together and test what they do best.
Australian Business Week - PBC State High School – Call for Mentors
The Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce has had a long standing relationship with the local high schools during Australian Business Week. ABW is a project where year 9 pupils take a week out of school lessons to run their own company.
Merger with Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce
The Creek to Creek and Southern Gold Coast chambers are considering a merger between the two Chambers. A small group from each Executive Committee have been meeting regularly and we are close to calling for EGM’s to occur to move us to the next phase.

June Meeting – Gold Coast Airport - Project LIFT
The most recent Chamber meeting was the breakfast on Thursday 2 June at the RSL. The June meeting was a joint event hosted by the Creek to Creek Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce. The Gold Coast Airport recently announced Project Lift and is also currently master-planning for the next 20 years.

On 17 May the Creek to Creek Chamber of Commerce members were invited to a joint breakfast hosted by the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce at the Coolangatta Surf Club, where Karen Andrews MP, Assistant Minister for Science and the Federal Member for McPherson was guest of honour.
April – Meet the new Division 14 Councillor and Merger Talks
On 7 April we held our April breakfast at Currumbin RSL. The event was a joint breakfast with the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce. Following the Council Elections it seemed fitting that we welcome our new Division 14 Councillor to talk to us all about her vision for the Division.
March – Local Elections and Out of Hours
During the 2016 Local Council election process each candidate for the two local Divisions, 13 and 14, and the Mayoral candidates, were offered the opportunity to put their platform for election into 500 words for posting on our website. Sadly some didn’t respond and perhaps that was a measure of their hopes of being elected.

Creek to Creek Chamber Unites in Support of ILS
Several of the city’s Chambers of Commerce have come out in support of the installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Gold Coast Airport.
Representing the business community in regions under the proposed ILS flight path, the Southern Gold Coast, Creek to Creek and Gold Coast Central Chambers of Commerce have written letters to the Airport supporting the installation of an ILS.
Palm Beach Master-Planning Event
On Friday May 8th a number of the Creek to Creek Committee members were invited to join a group of other interested parties to discuss and workshop the concepts being considered for the development of the Palm Beach commercial zone. Ian Grace and Chris Ward joined Hilary Jacobs at this important developmental meeting.
Meeting with Mayor Tom Tate
Early in May, our new President, Hilary Jacobs and re-elected Vice President, Chris Ward, took time out to meet with Mayor Tom Tate at his offices in Southport. The meeting was a great success with the new President introducing herself and acquainting the Mayor with the issues which the Chamber sees as vital to the growth of the Creek to Creek catchment.
Skilling Queenslanders for Work Invitation
Recently a programme for Skilling Queenslanders was announced by the Premier. The aim to help long term unemployed and younger people to find a path to meaningful work.
