State Update with Hermann Vorster – July 2026
Connecting Burleigh Businesses
The Crisafulli LNP Government has announced the GC Surfer, a metro-style service connecting Coolangatta to Robina every 10 minutes – and for just 50c.
It’s a more ambitious plan than the former light rail proposal, travelling further and doing more to link the southern Gold Coast with places locals need to go.
The GC Surfer will connect the Gold Coast Airport along the Gold Coast Highway to destinations through Palm Beach and Burleigh Heads before heading west.
This means a single seamless connection to more schools, more shopping centres, more hospitals, TAFE, two heavy rail stations and the stadium.
I love what this means for our small and family businesses, particularly those in our light industrial areas in Burleigh Heads and Varsity Lakes.
These areas are beset by some of the worst parking challenges – making it difficult for customers to get to showrooms and employees to get to workshops.
A fast, frequent and reliable service from the south and from our heavy rail stations will be a big boost to our local economy.
Best of all, it is just one part of the Gold Coast Transport Plan which will transform the way our city works. More on that soon.
